Not exactly
Unusually baffled, oddly confused, or perplexed would be a better description of how I feel concerning the correlation. In my unrealistic view and hope of a utopian American society, I could never fathom why a student would select a school because of their athletic success or lack of, unless they were a student athlete.
I selected VT because of fish, not because Bruce Arians was the starting VT quarterback in ’74 and their record was 4-7 when I applied. Archie Griffin could have been captain on the VT team with an 11-0 record and it would not have mattered.
I will admit it was wonderful to see such intelligent, apparently worldly students at VT when I retired in 2016.
